Having a nice, healthy & green landscape is easier when you kill weeds before they germinate.
Sure, most things are easier said than done.
But at least today, we’ll tell you about an herbicide we recommend to keep your mulched areas weed-free for up to 8 months, giving you peace of mind and keeping your landscaped areas beautiful.
Today, we’ll discuss Snapshot Pre-Emergent, including how it works, its active ingredient, the most common broadleaf weeds it controls, its features, which areas to apply it to, how to use it, and when.
Snapshot 2.5 TG Pre-Emergent is available in an easy-to-use granular formulation. This herbicide controls and suppresses over 120 broadleaf and grassy weeds.
As its name suggests, it hinders the healthy germination of weed seeds, and seedings gradually die before breaking the soil surface.
Snapshot is an excellent weed preventer that keeps your mulched areas free from weeds for up to 8 months.
The active ingredients in Snapshot pre-emergent herbicide are isoxaben and trifluralin:
Isoxaben is a herbicide that can control many broadleaf and some grass weeds, including chickweed, henbit, groundsel, annual bluegrass, crabgrass, and carpetweed.
It’s sold under trade names such as Gallery, Snapshot TG, and Gemini and is often used in early fall for pre-emergence control.
Trifluralin is a dinitroaniline herbicide that controls broadleaf weeds and annual grasses in crops, plants, flowers, and shrubs.
Trifluralin, also found in Team Pro herbicide, is the active ingredient in Preen but is found at a higher rate in Snapshot.
It can be used as a pre-emergent herbicide to prevent weeds from growing. Some weeds that trifluralin can control include annual grasses, pigweed, lambs quarters, and small-seeded broadleaf weeds.
For best results, apply Snapshot in the spring before germination and from late summer to early fall to maintain year-round weed control.

Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) like long sleeves, pants, closed-toed shoes, and socks.
The rate depends on the weeds you want to control, but it’s usually 2.3–4.6 lbs per 1,000 sq ft.
Use a drop or rotary spreader designed for granular herbicides or insecticides.
Calibrate the spreader according to the product label’s specifications. Walk at an even pace and spread the granules evenly. Work the granules into the top 1” or 2” of soil.
After applying Snapshot, water the lawn with at least 0.5 in water or wait for rainfall within 3 days to activate the granules. Watering helps the active ingredients bond to soil particles.
Snapshot herbicide can’t kill germinated weeds as a weed preventer. Therefore, we advise spraying existing weeds with a non-selective herbicide when applying Snapshot.
For instance, there are ugly weeds with white flowers and weeds with pink flowers. If these are already growing when applying Snapshot, you should kill the existing weeds with a post-emergent herbicide.
When choosing a post-emergent herbicide for broadleaf weeds in Georgia, you can consider herbicides that contain 2,4-D and MCPP, which are effective against a wide range of annuals and perennials. These herbicides are known as phenoxy and are safe for newly sprigged turfgrasses.
Some products that contain 2,4-D and MCPP include Weed-B-Gon Ready Spray, Weed-B-Gon RTU, and Postemergence weed-n-feed mixtures.
Since every herbicide has its defined function, you can use pre-emergent herbicides like Snapshot Pre-Emergent. Following our application steps, you can ensure the hidden weed seeds never sprout to the soil surface and ruin your landscape beauty.
That is our advice for dealing with what you can’t see. For the ugly weeds that you know, you can exterminate them with post-emergent herbicides like Weed-B-Gon Ready Spray, Weed-B-Gon RTU, and Postemergence weed-n-feed mixtures.
